Create an L-shaped figure. A composite figure is made of two or more simpler figures. Composite figures can be decomposed, or separated, into simpler figures whose areas are easier to calculate. Decompose the L-shaped figure into two rectangles. Next, find the area of each rectangle. Finally, sum the area of the rectangles to find the area of the composite figure.
