Completing the Square with Algebra Tiles

Completing the square is a way to represent part of a trinomial as a perfect square. Try to arrange the tiles in x²+ 6x as a perfect square. Start with the largest x² tile. Next add x tiles as evenly as possible around the x² tile. To complete the square, add 9 positive unit tiles. Since 9 positive units were added, remember to take away the same amount of unit tiles from the expression. So x²+ 6x can be expressed as (x + 3)² - 9.
