# Dividing Fractions with Fraction Circles

To divide 1/4 by 1/3 start by placing a yellow 1/4 piece inside of a Fraction Circle. Division can be thought of as finding how many times the second number fits inside the first number. To find how many times 1/3 fits inside 1/4, place an orange piece on top of the yellow piece. Notice that the 1/3 and 1/4 pieces align with intervals of twelfths because 12 is a common denominator of 1/3 and 1/4. The twelfths tick marks show that the yellow piece fits into the orange piece 3/4 of a time, so 1/4 ÷ 1/3 equals 3/4.
