When fractions represent the same part of a whole they are called equivalent fractions. Create three rectangles that are each 12 pegs wide and 2 pegs high. Divide the first rectangle into two equal parts and shade one of the two parts. Divide the next rectangle into 4 equal parts and shade two of the parts. Divide the final rectangle into 6 equals parts and shade 3 of the parts. The shaded parts in each rectangle represent the equivalent fractions 1/2, 2/4, and 3/6.
