Understanding Fractions with Fraction Tiles

Build a Fraction Wall. The wall is one whole unit wide. Notice that there are three orange pieces in a whole. Each orange piece represents the fraction 1/3. The bottom number in a fraction is called the denominator and represents the number of equal-sized pieces in a whole. The top number in a fraction is called the numerator and represents the number of parts being considered. So two orange pieces represent the fraction 2/3, and three orange pieces represent the fraction 3/3.
